The Birmingham Police Department has arrested a suspect in relation to the death of Colby Cade. Cade was fatally shot on February 6, 2024, at a Shell gas station in Birmingham, Alabama. The suspect, 21-year-old Deeric Lewis of Center Point, Alabama, was arrested two days later at a residence in the Grayson Valley community.
After his arrest, Lewis was taken to BPD Headquarters for questioning. He was then transferred to the Birmingham City Jail under a 48-Hour Felony Extension. Birmingham Police Detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Warrants for Murder, Attempted Murder, and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle were subsequently obtained. Lewis is currently held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
The police were first alerted to the incident at around 6:35 p.m. on February 6. East Precinct officers responded to a call at Fire Station #30, where they found a vehicle that had collided with a fire station bay door. Inside the vehicle were two gunshot victims, including Cade. Both victims were taken to UAB Hospital, where Cade was later pronounced dead. The other victim, an adult female, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
