Former UAB, JSU athlete turns life around, triumphs over adversity

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The story of Greg Edmonds is one from which we all can learn. It’s a cliche to call it a cautionary tale.

Greg Edmonds’ life is cratered in such a way that not many people’s life descends into the abyss. He seemed to be on the fast track to a successful life with basketball as the backdrop. Greg played at UAB and Jacksonville State University.

From there, his life went downhill.  Edmonds told me he used meth for the first time in 2001 and between 2013-2018 he used just about every drug available.

People who find themselves in and out of jail have a seemingly impossible task to break that cycle, but Greg Edmonds did. During one desperate night in jail, Edmonds started praying for all the things he didn’t have such as a job, friends, and a support system to help.

The long way back began and now Edmonds is an example of what can be, what one can endure and come out as a survivor. His journey was aided by a group called “His Way”. Edmonds’ life now features rebuilt relationships with family and friends.  He’s a successful car salesman with Bentley Buick GMC.
