Arrest made following theft of Jefferson County school bus

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 44-year-old is facing charges following the theft of a Jefferson County school bus.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, a school bus was stolen from the West Jefferson Town Hall on West Jefferson Road in Quinton Monday morning. The bus driver told deputies he parked the bus in front of the building last Friday and when he arrived to start his route Monday, the bus was gone.

The stolen bus was discovered along an old logging road just inside Walker County Monday afternoon. Deputies said a K9 was able to track footprints in the area to 44-year-old James Stafford. Strafford was then taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Stafford is facing a charge of first degree theft of property. His bond is set at $20,000.
