JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Lawson State Community College celebrated Black History Month on Thursday with the inaugural speaker’s forum for adult education, where Career Education Coach Dr. Ricky Lee and Jefferson County District Attorney of the Birmingham Division Danny Carr spoke.
The forum kicked off with Career Education Coach Dr. Ricky Lee speaking with adult education students about the significance of black history month.
“Black History Month now exists to raise awareness of black heritage and promote understanding and appreciation of how black people have shaped society as we know it,” Lee said.

Jefferson County District Attorney of the Birmingham Division Danny Carr also joined to share his insights about career, education and being the first Black District Attorney for the city of Birmingham.
An introduction for Carr was given to highlight his upbringing in Ensley, graduating from Jackson-Olin High School, receiving his undergraduate degree from Alabama State University and his Juris Doctorate from Miles College School of Law.
