16th Street Baptist begins largest capital fundraising campaign

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — $7.5 million is the amount 16 th Street Baptist Church wants to raise over the next year for three critical areas that will continue the legacy of the church.

16 th Street Baptist Church is a site filled with many stories that have impacted America. From its design by Wallace Rayfield, the church continues to impact groups like Fisk Jubilee Singers from Nashville who visited the church Sunday.

“I just couldn’t fathom walking into a church trying to serve God and someone comes in and bombs and it changes the history and the life of everyone,” member of Fisk Jubilee Singers Jasmine Moore-Renwick said.

“We are here, and the reason why we are here is because our four father stood. As that why we wanted them to see this historical building to be inside where Martin Luther King once stood is a blessing and an honor,” member of Fisk Jubilee Singers Kimberly Abernathy  said.
