BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened in the 1500 block of 18th Street North on Thursday.
At around 11:20 a.m., BPD north precinct officers were dispatched to the area on a person shot call. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies informed them that an adult male was shot and lying unresponsive on the sidewalk.

The victim, later identified as 40-year-old Maurice McGhee Davis, was pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel. The preliminary investigation states that JCSO deputies were issuing an eviction notice when a resident alerted them of a person shot.
There is no one in custody. Those with information on the case are urged to call BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
