Flight Delays Lead to Man Missing 11-Day Cruise to Alaska

A teacher from Birmingham, Alabama, had planned an 11-day Alaskan cruise departing from San Francisco. It’s a trip he planned for months in advance.

But instead of sailing on an epic voyage to America’s last frontier, Yuvraj Verma found himself stranded at home, grappling with thousands of dollars lost and dashed vacation dreams.

Verma, who spoke with Texas news outlets, explained the ordeal:

“It’s one thing to be upset about not having my vacation, but I spent almost $3,500 for this vacation. We don’t make a lot of money.”

His plans all fell apart on June 24, the scheduled departure date, when a 45-minute delay of his initial flight from Birmingham caused him to miss his connecting flight in Dallas.

Despite American Airlines’ efforts to rebook him on later flights to San Francisco, constant delays eventually piled up and made him completely miss his embarkation time.

“Now he’s missing thousands of dollars,” the report noted. Verma had opted out of trip insurance, a decision he now regrets, believing he wouldn’t need it for this trip.
