First Alert Weather: Hot and mostly dry conditions; Tracking Tropical Storm Debby

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good morning and happy Sunday! The big story this week is Tropical Storm Debby that will likely strengthen into a hurricane tonight as it approaches Florida’s Big Bend early tomorrow morning. Thankfully this storm will remain to our east limiting our chances for any direct impacts. Our story will be about the dry conditions and hot temperatures. We are starting the morning with temperatures in the low to mid 70s. Temperatures have cooled into the upper 60s in parts of Marion, Winston, and Cullman counties. First Alert AccuTrack Satellite and Radar is showing us mostly clear and dry. We have a stalled front across the state that will help to steer Debby away from us tonight. We will continue to see north-northeast winds today at 5-10 mph. It will provide us with dry air and a mostly quiet afternoon. We are looking at a mostly sunny sky this afternoon with high temperatures climbing into the low to mid 90s. It won’t be super muggy, so the heat index will likely remain in the upper 90s. We can’t rule out a stray shower or storm this afternoon for areas southeast of Birmingham. The best chance to see an isolated storm will likely remain in parts of Chilton, Coosa, Talladega, Tallapoosa, and Clay counties. The rest of us will likely remain dry. If you have any evening plans, we will likely remain mostly clear with temperatures cooling into the mid 80s by 7 p.m. CDT.
