Why this is the preseason 76 Birmingham Bowl Projection
Conference USA won’t have enough teams – and ESPN would love to have the bigger matchup – and the AAC will find spots elsewhere.
The Birmingham Bowl would love to get an SEC team in here, preferably Auburn, Florida, or South Carolina, but Arkansas should be able to sneak in and get here in an interesting Power Four vs Power Four battle.
Georgia Tech could be an interesting call, but if the bowl can get a solid SEC team that might travel here, going off the grid a bit with a Boston College – it made the trip in the 2020 game to end the 2019 season – or Syracuse is possible.
