UAB Medical Center West opens with 200 beds in Bessemer

UAB Medical Center West, a 200-bed, nine-story hospital affiliated with the UAB Health System, opened its doors Aug. 3 in Bessemer.

The new building at 5000 Medical Way West replaces UAB Medical Center West’s previous location at 995 Ninth Ave. SW.

“To move to our new campus marks a novel chapter for our health care facility,” UAB Medical West CEO Keith Pennington said in a news release.

“Our replacement facility offers west Jefferson County residents and beyond access to unparalleled technology, health care and services that will meet our patients where they are. We could not be prouder to continue the legacy of UAB Medical West and continue to grow and serve,” he said.

The hospital was built on a 46-acre site off Exit 1 on Interstate 459 in Bessemer/McCalla. UAB Medical Center West features a new surgical and endoscopy suite with robotic surgery, 12 operating rooms, state-of-the-art imaging technology and more intensive care beds.
