Birmingham man killed in Chilton County crash

CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A Birmingham man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Chilton County over the weekend.

On Sunday, Vernon Cooper, 57, was driving on I-65 near mile marker 213 when his vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. According to state troopers, Cooper was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was ejected from his car during the crash.

Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash happened roughly two miles north of Clanton.

Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
