Body found following shed fire in Birmingham identified

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A body found inside a burnt shed in Birmingham was identified Tuesday morning.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the remains found on April 4, 2024 belong to 41-year-old Markita Renea Hutton. Birmingham Fire and Rescue found Hutton’s remains in the debris of a shed that had caught on fire in the 300 block of 21st Avenue South.

The Birmingham Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
