Greater Birmingham Humane Society to host September adoption events

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — On Aug. 13, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society announced the temporary closure of the Jefferson County Intake Facility in Woodlawn due to an outbreak of Canine Pneumovirus.

GBHS Director of Development and Marketing Stephanie Salvago explained that, due to another animal recently testing positive, the intake facility is still unsure of its reopening date.

Despite the uncertainty, GBHS has not slowed down with its adoption events.

“It has made having adoption events harder because we only have so many animals to choose to take there, to the different events,” Salvago said.

Below are some of the upcoming adoption events hosted by GBHS:

  • Tailgate and Tails.
    • This event will take place at Side Bar on Sept. 14, and it will feature a volleyball tournament. The event starts at 11 a.m., and adoptable dogs will be there from 2-6 p.m.
  • Puppy Palooza.
    • This event will take place at the Vestavia Hills City Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will feature live musical, vendors, kids’ activities, activities for dogs, complimentary drinks, adoptable dogs and more.
  • Pooches on the Patio.
    • This event will take place at Vino & Gallery Bar from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Vino will offer classic dishes alongside its regular menu. This event will also feature a photo booth.
