‘Souls to the Polls’ event happening in Birmingham on Sept. 22

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Local community members with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and Woke Vote are organizing “Souls to the Polls.”

The event will feature a benefit concert and political debate to “promote diplomacy and bipartisan collaboration,” according to organizers. It will take place Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church on Graymont Avenue West.

Voter advocacy groups push for Alabamians to register to vote ahead of November

The event will start with musical performances from choirs and musicians with Lawson State Community College, Fisk University and UAB. The Miles College debate team will then engage in political discussions on the key issues that matter to voters in the upcoming election. Many state and city leaders will be attendance as well.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted.
