Wylam squatters cause nuisance while city searches for property owner

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A neighbor in Wylam contacted CBS 42’s Your Voice Your Station team about people living on a nearby property without the owner’s permission.

At the corner of Knoxville Street and 13 th Avenue, resident Kathy Glenn claims the individuals, colloquially known as squatters, are dumping human waste on the land.

She is fed up with the poor conditions of the situation, but the squatters said they don’t have anywhere else to go.

Glenn said she didn’t have a problem until they moved a shed and junk onto the empty lot next door.

“They didn’t tell me anything,” Glenn said. “I thought it was part of their land. I didn’t know they were going to live in it and do all that.”

Glenn said it was a year and a half before she realized just how bad it was.

“I found out they didn’t have any facilities like running water, electricity or a bathroom,” Glenn said. “Saw the lady throwing out the buckets of human waste, and they continue to do that because they have no facilities for their waste.”
