JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Jefferson County is in the middle of designing a brand new youth detention center to replace the current one in the Smithfield neighborhood. County Manager Cal Markert said since the pandemic, the county has seen more young people placed within the youth detention center, so they’re getting full.
