Birmingham police provide update after decomposed body found

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — The Birmingham Police Department released an update Saturday regarding a decomposed body that was found Thursday morning .

Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled homicide as the manner of death for the person who was discovered dead. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office announced Friday the victim, who was found near the East Pinson Valley Recreation Center, is a man. No other identifying information has been reported.

Though police said the preliminary investigation revealed foul play may have been involved in the man’s death, Fitzgerald stated they are not releasing the cause of death until Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates elects to disclose it.
