BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Thanksgiving is Nov. 28. While many people are planning their menus, some are paying attention to prices at the grocery store and how they may impact what’s on the table this year.
“We’re going to scale back a little bit,” Birmingham resident Bud Smith said.
Some people said they’ve been picking up a few ingredients for the big meal here and there to beat the grocery shopping rush the week of Thanksgiving, but some people said they’re looking at alternative options for the holiday because of the cost.
“May be a little more cost effective to try to go out to eat for just a couple people versus trying to prepare a big meal,” Smith said.
Smith said 2024 is the first year he’s considered not doing the traditional meal for Thanksgiving.
“I usually put together a big meal and have several people over,” Smith said. “Like I said, I just thought about it this year, and I just don’t know if I want to go to the expense of all that. Grocery prices can be high.”
