Sunny for Christmas, Rain and storms return this weekend

Christmas Day : The forecast now calls for plenty of sunshine with high clouds. High pressure northeast of Alabama will send dry air to the Birmingham area keeping the rain away for most of the day. High temperatures will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s. An upper-level wave will move across the state on Wednesday night with a few showers. Lows will be in the lower to middle 40s.

Thursday will have clouds and showers in the morning, but the rain will end before noon. Then it will be mostly cloudy as high pressure northeast of Alabama sends a dry wedge of air into the state. It will be cool with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Another upper-level wave will move across Central Alabama on Friday bringing us another round of scattered showers late in the afternoon into the evening. High temperatures will be in the lower 60s. The weather for the Birmingham Bowl at 2:30 PM will be cloudy with a few showers possible toward the end of the game. Kickoff temperatures will be in the upper 50s.
