HOOVER, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A Birmingham man shot and killed in a Hoover shooting on Christmas Eve was identified Thursday.
According to Lt. Daniel Lowe with the Hoover Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call at an apartment in the 2200 block of Rime Village Drive around 11 p.m. Tuesday. At the scene, police discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers and Hoover Fire Department paramedics tried life-saving measures on the man. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Brandon Montez Mcilwain, was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital.
Police detained a 29-year-old male suspect at the scene. Lowe stated he is a known acquaintance of the victim. According to Lowe, detectives think the suspect and victim were in a physical fight at the apartment. The suspect allegedly fired shots at the victim, and at least one bullet struck him. Police are continuing to investigate the case.
The suspect’s name will be released when the case is presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and any charges related to the case are filed.
