Bessemer man killed following alleged domestic dispute in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a 33-year-old man was found shot and killed Sunday.

According to the JCSO, Luis Martinez, 35, was arrested Monday morning after the U.S. Border Patrol detained him as he attempted to travel into Mexico. The JCSO stated it’s working with U.S. Border Patrol and the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Office in Texas to transport Martinez. He’s charged with capital murder.

Fultondale man who died at the Jefferson County Jail had been booked twice over several months

The JCSO stated it arrived to the 800 block of Willow Bend Lane around 2:23 a.m. Sunday on reports of a person shot. Deputies found Gumero Castro, of Bessemer, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim and his brother-in-law were involved in a domestic dispute that led to Castro being shot. Those with information on the case are asked to call the JCSO at 205-325-1450 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777…
