JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – For Alabamians on Medicaid right now, the over $1 trillion in federal spending to cuts to healthcare programs passed under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act do not go into effect until Jan. 1, 2027, but one local organization offering low cost and free health care says they are preparing now for an increase in patients.
Inside Alabama Regional Medical Services’ center in North Birmingham, doctors and nurses provide accessible medical, dental, and behavioral health care, which could increase over the next two years.
“Here’s a profile of the new patients coming in, those who have just lost Medicaid, those who are now uninsured, those who are now perhaps even experiencing homelessness,” said Dr. Ted Greer Jr. the CEO of Alabama Regional Medical Services. “Those are the people we think we’re going to see an influx.”…
