BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham-area firefighters were deployed to Texas on Saturday after flooding devasted part of the state over the Fourth of July weekend.
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey stated personnel from Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook fire departments will assist in search and rescue operations. At least 129 people were killed in the floods, including an 8-year-old Mountain Brook girl.

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato announced Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Guntersville, Decatur and Fort Payne firefighters were activated as part of Alabama Mutual Aid System Task Force 2 – Group G. The team headed to Kerr County, Texas, was the same that supported recovery operations in Asheville, North Carolina, after Hurricane Helene.
