Homewood community still seeking answers in the wake of Jabari Peoples’ death

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) – Calls for transparency in the death of an 18-year-old man shot by police continue in Homewood, despite city officials insisting only the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency can release body camera footage.

Monday marked three weeks since Jabari Peoples was shot and killed by a Homewood police officer during a reported altercation outside the city’s soccer field. In the wake of his death, attorneys representing Peoples’ family have taken the matter to court and protestors have routinely gathered outside Homewood City Hall to protest the inaction in the case.

As of Tuesday, ALEA has not released the video, claiming that doing so while the investigation was ongoing would compromise its work…
