Convicted murderer from Bessemer charged with kidnapping woman, family in Texas; forcing her to drive him to Alabama

BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) – Federal investigators are charging a convicted murderer with kidnapping a Texas woman and her children and brother at gunpoint, forcing her to drive him cross-country to Bessemer, and assaulting her along the way.

Larry Lowe is charged with kidnapping a woman he met over Facebook after traveling to meet her at her home in El Paso, Texas, and staying with her for 17 days.

The criminal complaint alleges the ordeal began on July 14 when woman told Lowe he had to leave after the two argued, and Lowe agreed if the woman would buy him a bus ticket home to Bessemer.

The complaint says Lowe became irate when he learned, en route to the bus station, that she planned to buy him a ticket for the next day, and he would have to spend the night in the bus terminal. Investigators say Lowe, who was sitting in the backseat of her car with her two children, fired a shot at the woman’s brother in the passenger seat as she drove, but one of her children pushed the gun as it was firing, which redirected the bullet to graze the man’s face and lodge in the car door…
