Family heartbroken as missing headstone sparks cemetery complaints in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Janice Powell is grappling with a new heartbreak following the loss of her mother, Dolla Dean Perdue, in mid-June. Powell discovered that her mother’s grave marker is missing at Zion Memorial Gardens cemetery in Birmingham, despite having paid $2,600 for it. The contract promised a proof of the headstone for her to review within seven days, but more than two months later, Powell has received nothing.

“I love her and miss her so much. I just hate having to deal with this,” Powell said. She explained that her calls to the cemetery were ignored when she asked for her money back. Powell claims that staff told her she is not alone, as others continue to wait for their loved ones’ headstones. Although she eventually received an email promising a proof to review the marker, she has yet to see any results.

Attempts to contact Zion Memorial by the I-Team were also unsuccessful. Calls to numbers reportedly for the owners yielded no response or a refusal to talk…
