An Alabama Muslim advocacy organization is calling on state and federal law enforcement to investigate the death threats targeting Hoover city council candidate Tanveer Patel as hate crimes.
Patel, who immigrated from India in 1990, said the Facebook comments, which included death threats, slurs and other hateful speech, were “frightening” and “heartbreaking” but maintains that “hate will not win.” One comment stated: “How come we’re not allowed to just shoot and kill these people and get them out of our f****** country.”
“Threats and intimidation targeting a Muslim candidate are not just attacks on one individual—they are attacks on democracy, inclusion, and the constitutional rights of all Americans,” Alabama Council on American-Islamic Relations representative Britton O’Shields said in a statement…
