Charge reduced for woman accused in Brighton domestic assault shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – The capital murder charge against a woman accused of shooting a man during a domestic assault in Brighton has been downgraded to murder, according to court records.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Adolphus Reuben Milligan was shot July 12 in the 4000 block of Letson Street. Milligan died at the scene.

Jameshia Chavers, court records say, is accused of shooting Milligan in the groin with two children present. She was charged with capital murder and booked in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

New court documents filed Aug. 15 show Assistant District Attorney Tanesha Lacy filed a Motion to Dismiss the current case, citing the facts and evidence don’t support the charge being elevated to a capital offense…
