Birmingham police make 51 arrests in week-long crime crackdown

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau has reported a significant enforcement effort aimed at enhancing public safety and reducing crime in the city. During the week of August 18 to August 24, 2025, the department’s Special Enforcement Division made 51 arrests as part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life in Birmingham.

The arrests included 32 felony charges and 19 misdemeanors. In addition to the arrests, officers seized 16 firearms, including one stolen weapon and one with an altered auto sear. The division also conducted 86 traffic stops, issued 139 citations—17 of which were for speeding—and impounded eight vehicles, recovering one stolen vehicle in the process.

The department’s efforts extended beyond arrests and seizures. Officers made 176 citizen contacts and assisted in 29 patrols. The enforcement activities also led to the seizure of $2,874 in currency and a variety of narcotics, including 0.6 grams of cocaine, 135 grams of crack cocaine, 28.9 grams of crystal meth, 265.7 grams of fentanyl, and over 7,000 grams of marijuana…
