Yolanda Lawson makes history as Pleasant Grove’s first African American and woman mayor

PLEASANT GROVE, Ala. — Voters in Pleasant Grove have made history by electing Yolanda Lawson as the city’s first African American and woman mayor.

Lawson, who has served as a city council member, will assume her new role in November. She said her focus will be on accessibility, inclusivity, and continuing the city’s recovery from the devastating April 2011 storm.
