Unincorporated Jefferson County sees a big drop in major crimes, sheriff says

Crime in unincorporated Jefferson County was down double digits from January through mid-August, sheriff’s officials announced Friday.

There was a 23 percent combined decrease in Part 1 offenses – aggravated assault, burglary, homicide, rape, robbery, theft, unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and vehicle theft.

“Major crimes are down,” Sheriff Mark Pettway said, “and we’re proud about that.”…
