Autopsy report reveals official cause of death for toddler who died after being left in hot car

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – An autopsy report shows the official cause of death of a 3-year-old boy who was left in a hot car in Birmingham on July 22.

The medical examiner ruled Ke’Torrius Starkes Jr. died from environmental hyperthermia and the manner of death is accidental.

The report shows temperatures outside the vehicle were between 92 and 96 degrees during the time he was left in the vehicle which was at least five hours.

Starkes was under the care of the Alabama Department of Human Resources and was being transported by Kela Stanford who was a Covenant Services employee at the time of his death. Covenant Services was contracted by DHR to help with child transportation.
