Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin cruised to a third term last week, securing nearly 75% of votes. He won everywhere, earning a majority in every precinct.
He won by wider margins in some of Birmingham’s few predominantly white areas, including a strong core of support in the south-central part of the city — some of the same areas that helped buoy Woodfin’s dominant war chest.
And all this in a race that saw a lowly turnout of just 22%.
Where did Woodfin win biggest?
In terms of total votes, Woodfin saw broad support all across Birmingham, including in the northeast and south-central parts of the city.
In a race with eight other candidates, Woodfin won at least 62% of the vote in all 64 precincts reported by the City Clerk’s Office. Voters at Crestway Baptist Church, just off of Crestwood Boulevard in southeast Birmingham, supported Woodfin more than any other precinct. Some 88% of the vote there went to the incumbent…
