SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — The fifth I.G.N.I.T.E. site in Alabama has opened in Shelby County. The program, called Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education, is part of a nationwide effort led by the National Sheriff’s Association to transform inmates’ lives through education, rehabilitation, and second chances.
The program, located at the Shelby County Jail, aims to connect inmates with educational and personal growth resources based on merit.
“We believe in rehabilitation, responsibility, and redemption. I.G.N.I.T.E. allows us to invest in the men and women in our custody by providing real tools that can help them succeed once they leave our facility,” said Sheriff John Samaniego. “This program is about more than education – it’s about restoring hope and creating safer communities for everyone in Shelby County.”…
