Birmingham Police hope surveillance video leads to arrest in shooting of 82-year-old grandmother

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham police officers believe surveillance video could help them make an arrest in the fatal shooting of 82-year-old Aldorithia Burrell on her front porch.

Police are spotlighting Connect Birmingham, the camera integration program that allows officers to access privately owned surveillance footage with residents’ permission. The program aims to enhance public safety and support crime-solving efforts.

“What Connect Birmingham does, in addition to the 200 cameras owned by the city and placed in strategic locations, is use data and intelligence to determine the best spots for those cameras,” Sgt. Robert Conner said. “Citizens’ privately owned cameras on their properties supplement that coverage.”…
