Birmingham Water Works faces lawsuit from former attorney

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Longtime Birmingham Water Works attorney Mark Parnell has filed a civil lawsuit against the utility and several of its board members, claiming wrongful termination. Parnell, who represented the Water Works for over three decades, said he was dismissed after being appointed deputy general manager and general counsel.

The contract, which amounted to $660,000 a year along with lucrative benefits, sparked public outcry. A board member described the contract as “a slap in the face to ratepayers.”…
