Historic Pizitz Building gets loan relief as it plans for revival

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham City Council has approved a measure granting the Pizitz Building a 24-month deferral on its $3.2 million HUD loan. The loan, originally borrowed in 2015, was used to restore the historic downtown property.

District 2 Councilor Hunter Williams said, “The Pizitz is a very essential thing for the city of Birmingham and our downtown corridor. The fact that if we were to allow that to be boarded up and not in a vibrant space that would have a very devastating impact in our downtown corridor.”…
