BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Birmingham business community is expressing deep sorrow and outrage following the tragic death of 82-year-old Aldorthia Burrell, a great-great-grandmother who was killed in a shootout. In response, local businesses have come together to raise $8,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. This amount is in addition to the $10,000 already offered by Crime Stoppers.
Carnelle Howell, the organizer and a member of the Birmingham Crime Commission, emphasized the importance of community involvement in ensuring public safety. “We commend the leadership of Mayor Randall Woodfin, Chief Mike Pickett, and the Birmingham Police Department, who continue working tirelessly to keep our streets safe and our families protected,” Howell said. “However, we must also recognize that they cannot carry this burden alone. Public safety requires partnership, and as citizens, we must do our part.”
Howell urged the community to reflect on the impact of such violence, asking, “What if this had been your mother, your grandmother, or your great-grandmother?” Howell stressed the importance of speaking up, stating, “When we as a community choose silence instead of coming forward with information, we protect criminals rather than protecting our families.”…
