2nd arrest made in connection with Homewood Walmart fire

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — A second arrest has been made in connection to a fire that was set inside the Walmart Supercenter on Lakeshore in August.

Lillian Colburn, 26, of Birmingham, was charged with first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief. She is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond. Mercutio Southall was arrested and charged with arson on Sept. 1 in connection to the case.

Protester charged with filling shopping cart full of rags and paint thinner, setting it on fire and pushing it into Homewood Walmart

On Aug. 22, around 2:30 p.m., Homewood police arrived to Walmart on Lakeshore on reports of a fire. Officers determined that a shopping cart full of items was set on fire inside the store, which cause the store to close for the remainder of the day and over $130,000 in damages.

Evidence reportedly shows Colburn attending a protest in response to the death of Jabari Peoples at the Homewood Soccer Park prior to traveling to Walmart with Southall, where they both allegedly fill up a shopping cart full of rags, blankets, charcoal bags, small engine fuel and paint thinner.
