‘We got him’: Business owners react after police arrest suspect in 82-year-old woman’s homicide

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Birmingham Police have announced an arrest in the shooting death of Aldorthia Burrell. The 82-year-old woman was sitting on her porch when she was shot and killed. A 17-year-old has been charged with capital murder.

Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama offered $10,000 for tips in the case. Local business owners raised more than $8,000 of their own to help find Burrell’s killer. These rewards were not connected to the arrest made by Birmingham Police, but those involved say they are glad to see Burrell finally receive justice.

Robert Banks, the owner of Black Effect Style and Barber, said he and other local business owners began raising money shortly after Burrell was killed. Their goal was to use the reward as an incentive to encourage people to come forward with information about who fired the shots that killed her…
