Parked in the lot of the Sunoco gas station at 211 West Valley Ave. in Homewood, Alabama is my favorite taco truck: Dos Hermanos. It’s not hidden or a secret; the truck is bright red and there’s almost always a line, even at 10 a.m. on a Sunday when most folks are already in church.
Speaking of, if in doubt, you’ll know you’ve found the right spot if above the Takis and cold drinks, you see a Virgin Mary shrouded in a blue shawl. You’ll need cash, but luckily if you forget, there’s an ATM in the gas station. The tacos are more than worth the extra charge for using a machine not affiliated with your bank.
When it comes to what to order, I’m not sure you can go wrong. The orange-red al pastor will permanently stain your white clothes if you let a little slip out the back of the taco (pro-move, order it as a burrito), but that’s a fair price to pay for the ultra tender pork cradled in a soft, warm tortilla under a flurry of chopped cilantro and raw onions…
