Former Birmingham employee charged with computer tampering

A former Birmingham city employee has been charged with computer tampering.

According to a criminal complaint, Amber Nicole Pettway committed the offense on or around March 1. The complaint claimed Pettway did, without authority or exceeding authorization, used computer programs, data or supporting documents, including City of Birmingham internal electronic mail accounts, to commit an unlawful act to benefit, defraud or harm another in violation of the Code of Alabama.

ABC 33/40 reached out to the City of Birmingham, which confirmed Pettway is no longer employed with the city. The city provided no further comment…
