Restoration work underway on 2 ‘sisters houses’ on Highland Avenue

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Work is underway to bring back two historic homes on Highland Avenue back to their glory days.

The houses, affectionately referred to  as the “sisters houses”, have not been lived in for decades. There are actually three houses sitting side-by-side on Highland Avenue that were built around 1905 for three sisters and their respective husbands by the same architect Robert Posey, according to the Birmingham Historical Society.

Only one of the three houses, which is now used as a law office, has been completely restored. Bob McKenna, who bought and renovated the Clubhouse on Highland, has purchased the two remaining sisters houses which he hopes to bring back to life.
