Create Birmingham, in collaboration with the Jefferson County Memorial Project, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op, The Black Cherry Tree Project, and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, invites the public to “Bound Together: Day of Community” on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
This free event celebrates the Jefferson County Memorial Quilt, a tribute to the 33 African Americans lynched in Jefferson County from the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries. The initiative aims to foster dialogue, remembrance, and reconciliation through art and education.
The day will feature live performances, art-making, a panel discussion, local organization tabling, and free food while supplies last. Attendees can also view the exhibit “Bound Together: Threads of Remembrance” at the institute. Tiffani Saxton, Vice President of Strategy & Engagement at BCRI, expressed the significance of the quilt, stating, “This powerful display of community unity and resistance will stand in the heart of the Birmingham Civil Rights District, reminding us to continue to build better.”…
