Birmingham City Council approves $1.2 million for Legion Field renovations

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham City Council is investing more than $1.2 million into upgrades at historic Legion Field, marking another step in the city’s effort to preserve one of its most iconic landmarks.

The funds, approved during Tuesday’s council meeting, will cover restroom expansions, roof repairs and the replacement of parts of the stadium’s exterior wall, according to city council agenda. The work falls under the city’s “Legion Field Renovations 2023” capital project.

“We have to continue to invest in it so that it is structurally sound,” said Birmingham City Councilor Hunter Williams. “We have people come out to attend events there, whether it be the Magic City Classic or a lot of the high school and community events that take place there.”…
