Pothole Patrol: Deep drain at Gadsden McDonald’s, new patches in Birmingham

GADSDEN, Ala. (WBMA) — A viewer tip about a dangerous storm drain at a Gadsden McDonald’s led the ABC 33/40 Pothole Patrol to check it out — and the hole was every bit as bad as described.

On North 12th Street, at the restaurant’s entrance, a large section of pavement has dropped around a sunken storm drain, leaving a deep and uneven surface for drivers.

Storm drains like this one are essential for keeping the street from flooding. But when the metal frame sinks below street level, it becomes a serious hazard. The Pothole Patrol measured the spot at roughly six inches deep, enough to cause tire or axle damage…
