No. 10 Homewood Upsets Fifth Ranked Parker to Claim 6A Region 5 Title

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Homewood clinched the Class 6A, Region 5 championship Friday night, holding off a late charge from defending state champion Parker to win 35-28 at Major Brown Memorial Stadium. The Patriots put the game on ice by intercepting a last-second Thundering Herd pass.

Head coach Ben Berguson’s Patriots established an early 21-0 advantage before Parker mounted a comeback, scoring 13 points in the second quarter and another eight in the third. Homewood responded with a touchdown in the third quarter to take a 28-21 lead into the final frame, where both teams traded scores.

Homewood quarterback Kaleb Carson delivered a commanding performance, accounting for all five of the visitors’ touchdowns. Carson completed 17 of 23 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the ground attack with 125 rushing yards and three scores…
