Birmingham City Council helping fund mental health services for city schools

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Birmingham City Council has approved $1 million in funding for the Birmingham Board of Education to provide mental health support on school campuses.

According to the city council, this mental health support will be provided via licensed counselors and consulting services.

The council says that this program also includes support for school personnel, for early identification of students who may be dealing with a crisis. School staff can also be trained in mental health-related techniques, such as communication and relational skills, to allow earlier intervention…
