FBI Birmingham joins national task force to combat violent crime

FBI Birmingham is actively participating in the newly established Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF), a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling violent criminal organizations. The task force, led by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations, targets sophisticated cartels, foreign terrorist organizations and transnational gangs involved in crimes such as homicide, kidnapping, human trafficking, extortion and drug smuggling.

“Your FBI and our partners are united behind one common goal: protecting the American people,” said David R. Fitzgibbons, special agent in charge of the FBI Birmingham. In the past 100 days, FBI Birmingham has made 52 arrests and disrupted organized criminal networks in the Northern District of Alabama, resulting in 10 federal indictments.

The North Alabama Homeland Security Task Force (NAHSTF) coordinates efforts across northern Alabama, including Birmingham and Huntsville, with partners such as the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigation, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the Internal Revenue Service. Recently, the task force dismantled an illegal cockfighting and gambling operation, leading to 60 arrests, the seizure of $100,000, two firearms, and the discovery that 55 of those arrested were illegally in the country…
