Mayor Woodfin: SNAP suspension could impact one in four Birmingham households

The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) announced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will be suspended in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

DHR said it received guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) on Friday, directing states to suspend all November 2025 benefit allotments until federal funding resumes or further instructions are issued by FNS.
